Team USA sits in eighth place in the World Series standings with 35 points, just behind Australia and Wales. The Americans are coming off a sixth-place finish in the 2017 Sydney Sevens. Fiji defeated Team USA 35-12 to capture fifth.

Led by captain Madison Hughes, also the team’s leading points scorer, Team USA continues to improve. Perry Baker, a former college and professional football player, is the team’s leading tries scorer and Carlin Isles is considered by many to be the fastest player in rugby. Isles was a football and track star at Ashland University in Ohio.

The USA Rugby Sevens tournament gets underway on Friday, March 3, and ends on Sunday, March 5. Team USA will open play on Friday when it faces Samoa at 5:37 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium. The team will play again at 8:36 p.m. on Friday taking on Chile and then will face perennial power England on Saturday afternoon. Team USA’s best finish in the USA Rugby Sevens came in 2010 when the team made the semifinals and finished fourth.
