Can Leicester City Repeat Its Miracle Of A Year Ago?

Leicester City

A year ago, Leicester City and its new manager, Claudio Ranieri did the unthinkable. The team won the Premier League for the first time ever in the club’s existence. Perennial power Manchester United, which has won a record 20 league titles, finished fifth in qualification for the Europa League group stage. Is it possible that the Foxes could pull off another Premier League championship?

So far this season, it doesn’t appear that Leicester City will do much of anything. The Foxes are currently in the relegation zone with just five wins in 25 matches. Ranieri has already been sacked and replaced by Craig Shakespeare, a Leicester City assistant since 2011.

The Foxes will take on rival Liverpool, a team that has been doing well thus far this season. With 14 victories in 25 matches, the Reds are currently one of the Top 5 teams in the Premier League. The front three of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino are a formidable trio and will present problems for Leicester City. The Foxes have lost their last three matches in a row and four of their past five. After Liverpool, Leicester City takes on Hull City on Saturday and then faces another Top 5 team in Arsenal (15-5-5).

At this point, it looks as if Leicester City is in too much turmoil to have a shot at repeating as champions. The Foxes would have to prove that they can play with teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. That hasn’t happened and likely will not in 2017.
